Across Montana, sheep make short work of weeds
- Seventeen projects of the Montana Sheep Institute are underway across the state, including a ranch outside Missoula, where nearly 2,000 ewes and lambs are making short work of a leafy spurge infestation. Economically, sheep are a lot cheaper than chemicals, and insects are a more long-term solution--10 to 20 years down the road. The spurge is healthier than native grasses, with nearly three times the protein. Sheep can be part of a solution to what has become a very serious problem in the West.

Inland-Northwest Forest Products Research Consortium
- A cooperative effort between the Forest Products Department at the U of Idaho, the Bureau of Business and Economic Research at the U of Montana, and the Wood Materials and Engineering Laboratory at Washington State U. The Consortium utilizes a multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional approach to solve forest-industry problems unique to the Inland Northwest. It is funded by a special grant from the USDA CSREES.

- The Inland Northwest Economic Adjustment Strategy (INEAS) is a partnership between the states of Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington and the Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians. The goal of INEAS is to strengthen the economic vitality of 137 distressed resource-dependent counties in the Inland Northwest through strategic, cooperative regional action that supports communities as they adjust to new economic realities.

Montana Renewable Energy Overview
- Montana generates a very small percentage of its electricity mix from renewables – almost all from biomass. However, eastern Montana offers several key locations for large-scale wind installations near the transmission grid. In fact, the wind resource alone could provide enough power for the entire state more than 70 times over.
