Conservation tillage is the emerging technology in California agriculture - Driving a powerful tractor as it rips, cuts and tills under plants after harvest is a satisfying fall ritual for many row crop growers. However, farmers may be willing to give it up for the economic and environmental benefits of conservation tillage. Conservation tillage, in addition to saving money, may conserve water, reduce dust, suppress weeds, improve soil quality and even cut down the farm's release of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.

Conservation Tillage Workgroup - Our mission is to provide up-to-date information on research and education activities related to conservation tillage production systems in California. The Conservation Tillage Workgroup currently consists of over 80 UC Cooperative Extension, Agricultural Experiment Station, USDA Agricultural Research Service and Natural Resource Conservation Service, private industry, farmer and student members and affiliates.
