  • Solar power panels! Planetary Systems, Inc. - The concept of solar power is not new; it originated back in the 1700s. However, hardware was first introduced by Bell Labs in the early 50s. The first solar panel produced less than 10 watts and cost $286,000. Today panels cost $600 for a 120 watt output -- a cost reduction of over 5700 percent. Depending on your available sunlight during the better part of the year, you can produce your own power for about $ 0.14 per kWh (cost when averaged over system life-about 25 years minimum).
