Rural Futures : Energy Categories

Biofuels (28)
Both biodiesel and ethanol are clean, grow-your-own fuels that can be made from renewable, locally available resources, using simple equipment. These fuels are among a wide range of sustainable rural energy options.

Hydrogen Cells (23)
Hydrogen fuel cells produce electricity when hydrogen stored in a tank combines with the oxygen in the air leaving water as a byproduct.
Solar (17)
Solar power is energy for free. As we move aggessively away from dependence on foreign fossil fuels, sun power is a free alternative. Anything having to do with solar energy can be added here.

Wind Power (43)
Wind is free energy waiting to be tapped. As we look to become less dependent on non-renewable fossil fuels, wind is an excellent alternative. Anything having to do with wind power can be added here.

  • Hydrogen-fueled cars -- best way to cut pollution? - Hydrogen cars could potentially reduce air pollution, slow down global warming, and reduce dependence on imported oil, according to researchers. But if the hydrogen is produced from oil and coal, carbon dioxide is released that would have to be captured and stored. Technologies are already available to improve efficiency and reduce air pollution and greenhouse gases caused by automobiles that could be applied at a fraction of the cost of switching to hydrogen.
