Rural Economic Development - Economic development in rural areas poses special challenges because of the geographic isolation and sparse population in many locations. Common problems that have to be overcome include: poor infrastructure, difficulty in accessing resources and professional services, lack of access to capital, an inadequate supply of trained workers, and limited markets and job opportunities.
