Rural Futures : Energy : Wind Power Links

  • The Environment is Right for Community Wind - The success of the Town of Hull, Massachusetts with wind power illustrates how opportunities can be discovered when the power markets are open and allow innovation. Hull's wind installation makes use of a good wind resource, and a variety of changes in the power market that create the right environment for community-based wind development.

  • Tidal Turbines vs. Wind Power - Marine-current turbines could generate four times as much electricity as wind turbines and do so more reliably, according to researchers at the University of Southampton. The British government has committed to developing wind power in vast areas of shallow sea around the coast, but wind is not as reliable as the tides, notes AbuBakr Bahaj, head of the university's Sustainable Energy Research Group.

  • Wind Energy Potential in the United States - Estimates of the electricity that could be generated by wind power and of the land area available for wind energy have been calculated for the contiguous U. S. Eestimates are based on published wind resource data and exclude windy lands not suitable for development. Good wind areas covering 6% of the contiguous U.S. land area, have the potential to supply more than 1.5 times the current electricity consumption of the U. S. Maps, tables, figures, data.

  • Wind power generators! Planetary Systems, Inc. - Wind power can be an essential part of your Renewable Energy input, but it requires time and energy in design and implementation. The locating of wind systems and the infrastructure are vital the project being both safe and efficient. As a general rule, wind machines require a location where obstructions will not block the wind energy. Further, because of the enormous potential energy available with wind, the mounting structure must be able to withstand the most severe projected wind drag.
